Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom

JUNE 5 - JUNE 11, 1998

Roses are outstanding in both the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens,
with modern hybrids and some climbers in full bloom this week.

Japanese iris in Seiwa-En, the Japanese Garden, are in full bloom
this week.

Astilbes and Columbines are very showy in the English Woodland
Garden.

Oakleaf hydrangeas and Smooth hydrangeas are showy in many locations
on the grounds.

Hardy water lilies in the pool at the base of the Dry Stream Bed in
the Knolls are in bloom.

Bottlebrush buckeyes are beginning to bloom in the Knolls.

Figs are ripening above the walled Moorish garden in the Shoenberg
Temperate House. The biblical garden features the beautiful orange
blossoms of the Pomegranate tree (Punica granatum 'Wonderful') and the
showy flowers of the Caper vine (Capparis spinosa).

Colorful Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana 'Dazzler Series') line the
winding brick path in the cool shady Linnean House.

You'll never see a finer display of Indian paintbrush (Castilleja
coccinea) than the planting in the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Prairie
Garden at the Kemper Center for Home Gardening. Penstemons and Lanceleaf
coreopsis are also showy in this garden.

Yarrows in the Lois Whiteside Franklin Flower Trial Garden at the
Kemper Center for Home Gardening are at peak bloom.

Tropical water lilies in the pools in the Milles Sculpture Garden
are beginning to bloom.
