Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom

APRIL 24 - APRIL 30, 1998

The peak of spring bloom is here, with Azaleas, Redbuds and Dogwoods
flowering along with a great display of Tulips and other spring bulbs
in many locations on the grounds.

Bleeding Hearts, Blue-eyed Mary, and Celandine poppies are among the
many perennials and wildflowers blooming along with Dogwoods and
Redbuds in the English Woodland Garden.

Azaleas are at peak bloom throughout the grounds. The display in
the Japanese Garden is very showy.

Wood hyacinths and Camassia carpet the ground in the Mausoleum
Garden.

It's peak blooming time in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Showy
Crimson bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus) blooms on the upper level.
Carnivorous pitcher plants (Sarracenia sp.) are displaying their
unusual beautiful blossoms, and the Venus fly traps (Dionaea
muscipula) are growing and eating heartily.

The sweet fragrance of Jasmine permeates the air in the Linnean
House. The fragrant yellow blossoms of the Canary Island broom
(Genista canariensis) surround the fountain in the center.

Pansies in the Lois Whiteside Franklin Flower Trial Garden at the
Kemper Center for Home Gardening are very showy.

The flamboyant combinations of Tulips and Pansies in the large beds
in the Milles Sculpture Garden, the beds by the pools by the Linnean
House, and the Members Entry Court Garden at the Kemper Center for Home
Gardening make for showy displays.

Dwarf bearded iris are beginning to bloom in the Goodman Iris
Garden.
