Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
APRIL 3 - APRIL 9, 1998
-
Flowering cherries are at peak bloom in the Japanese Garden.
-
Redbuds and Serviceberries are blooming in many locations on the
grounds.
-
There's a great display of Daffodils, Tulips, and other spring bulbs
throughout the grounds this week, but the bulb borders are especially
showy.
-
It's peak blooming time in the Shoenberg Temperate House, especially
in the Mediterranean section on the upper level. Look for the showy
fragrant flowers of the California lilac (Ceonothus `Ray Hartmann').
Climbing white roses (Rosa bankiae `Alba Plena') and the yellow
Wisteria-like blooms of the Golden-chain tree (Laburnum x wateri
`Vossii') cascade over the walls of the Moorish Garden. The tiled
fountain display features Easter lilies, Hydrangeas and deep blue
Daisies (Cineraria sp.).
-
Large drifts of Daffodils can be found among the many perennials and
wildflowers blooming in the English Woodland Garden.
-
The sweet fragrance of Jasmine permeates the air in the Linnean
House. Camellias are past their peak, but a few are still showy. The
fragrant yellow blossoms of the Canary Island broom (Genista
canariensis) surround the fountain in the center.
-
Pansies in the Lois Whiteside Franklin Flower Trial Garden at the
Kemper Center for Home Gardening are becoming very showy.
-
Tulips and Pansies in the large beds in the Milles Sculpture Garden
make a showy combination.
