Lianas, the branchlets terete, with interpetiolar glandular fields; pseudostipules inconspicuous or absent. Leaves 3-foliolate; terminal leaflet sometimes replaced with a simple or trifid tendril. Inflorescence an axillary or terminal panicle. Calyx closed and pointed in bud, calypterately or occasionally bilabiately splitting, cupular and truncate (or bilabiate) at anthesis; corolla white to magenta, tubular-funnel-shaped to tubular-campanulate, puberulous outside. Anthers densely pubescent, the thecae straight, divaricate, the filaments glabrous or pubescent. Ovary oblong-conical, densely puberulous; ovules 2-6-seriate in each locule; disk lacking. Fruit an elongate-linear, ± compressed capsule, the valves parallel to the septum, puberulous, the median vein conspicuously raised, the margins also ± raised. Seeds thin, 2-winged, the wings membranous, irregularly hyaline at least at tips.

Southern Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia; 12 species, 4 in Venezuela, all in the flora area.
