To
test how well “rare” species encompass total species richness in order to achieve 100% representativeness, successive analyses of
areas were carried out in
relation to the current protected areas
network. The 16 areas that encompass
the very rarest
“irreplaceable” species contain a total of 68 species, or 73% of 93 total species. Of the 25 species not represented in those 16
“irreplaceable” cells, 20
are already encompassed within Protected Areas.
