for the most part, the centers of high species richness are also centers of
high rarity/endemism. The cell with the highest rarity value
(15.9) is Betampona RNI, followed by Tampolo STF (9.33), Mahatsara (8.04), Itremo (7.94),
Ambila-Lemaitso (6.89), and Andohahela (6.37), further confirming the importance of east coast littoral
forest. However, a number of cells
with lower species richness nevertheless
exhibit high range size rarity values (4.0-6.0) just below those listed above,
including 4 additional
cells (Ambanizana, Voloina, Makira, Maroantsetra) in the Bay of Antongil
region, the area just N of
Sambava, and the Ibity Massif.
