Analysis
of Priority Areas for
Plant Conservation
•100% Representation (+
Multiple Representation?)
•Irreplaceability
•Complementarity by
range size rarity and richness
•Existing Protected
Areas network
Ultimately,
the goal is to encompass all species within the Protected Areas network at least once.
Multiple representation is more highly desired. The principles of irreplaceability and complementarity can aid
in determining the minimum areas required, as well as indicate flexible areas. New areas should complement the existing
Protected Areas network. The dataset can therefore be partitioned to
analyze only those species that
currently fall outside of the existing Protected Areas network.
